Poetry Competition

Explore the beauty of our ancient woodland and write a poem inspired by it! You could describe a tree or woodland creature, share an experience, or tell us what the woods mean to you or how it makes you feel. Poems can take any form but the subject must relate to Lesnes Abbey Woods.

How to Enter

THE COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED FOR ENTRIES.

Your can submit one poem which must be your own work, about Lesnes Abbey Woods and not have been published or won a competition before. It must be no more than 32 lines, but can be in any style or form.

The deadline for submissions is 31st August.

There is no entrance fee and three age categories.  For the purposes of categorisation age is aligned to the school year and set as being your age on 1st September 2023.


Your poem must be emailed to folawcompetition@gmail.com by the closing date with the subject "Poetry Competition" followed by your first name and surname. If you do not specify an age category, you will be included in the 18+ category.

Please read the rules of the competition below carefully as failure to follow these may invalidate your entry.

I wandered lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,

When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;

Beside the lake, beneath the trees,

Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
